History

An agency with roots dating back to 1966

Rainbow Entertainment Concert & Tour Promotion ApS has roots reaching far back in time.

The agency was established in 1985 under the name of SL Management ApS in close co-operation with HM Management ApS.

HM Management ApS arose out of the former agency Helweg-Mikkelsen & Co. which was established in 1980 by the singer, bassist and booking agent Thomas Helweg-Mikkelsen, the Shubidua members Kim Daugård and Willy Petersen and by the Nation Wide Band drummer Hans Simonsen.

Helweg-Mikkelsen & Co 1966 -1985

Thomas Helweg, who had been booking artists since 1974 – actually since back in 1966, and Hans Simonsen handled the day-to-day management from the premises of the old Shubidua studio “Soundtrack” at Gammel Kongevej in Copenhagen, which Helweg-Mikkelsen & Co. purchased from Claus Asmussen and Ole Hansen in order to focus intensively on booking activities in respect of both national and international artists.

Agreements were made with popular Danish artists of that time, for example Kim Larsen, Halberg-Larsen, Bifrost, Lone Kellermann, the girl band Design, the Danish no. 1 funk group Survivors, Michael Hardinger on his solo projects and to a smaller extent with Shubidua, Svend Asmussen and less well-known Danish names in abundance.

The representation of international artists included B.B. King, Fats Domino, The Hollies, Bo Diddley, Sally Oldfield, The Swinging Blue Jeans, The Searchers, The Dooleys, Toots & The Maytalls, The Pretty Things, The Troggs and Link Wray as well as many other international names.

SL Management Aps from 1985

Helweg-Mikkelsen & Co. ceased to exist in 1985, and Thomas Helweg started his own agency HM Management ApS with new co-operation partners, e.g. SL Management ApS.

A more international profile was built up, although Thomas Helweg continued to act as the manager of Bifrost and booking agent of Kim Larsen. International co-operation partners in the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Italy soon contributed to a fast expansion of the agency.

More names were added to the already lengthy list of artists whom HM Management ApS and SL Management acted as agent for and represented: Rory Gallagher, The Kinks, Donovan, The Wailers (Bob Marley’s), John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Miles Davis, George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Chuck Berry, Tower of Power, Walter Trout, Meat Loaf, Mick Taylor’s All Star Bluesband, The Blues Band, Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Steve Gadd (The One and Only), The Tubes, New Order and the Small Faces guitarist/singer Steve Marriott, Ray Charles, Van Morison, The London Symphony Orchestra, Hank Marwin from The Shadows and Procol Harum.

A great demand for e.g. 70s artists meant that names such as Suzi Quatro, Smokey, Sweet and Slade were added to the list, and a similar demand for the more R&B-oriented 60s groups such as Spencer Davis Group, The Animals and The Yardbirds resulted in various tours in Scandinavia during the period from 1994 and onward.

The list also included representation of the Eurovision Song Contest-winners Katrina & The Waves in all of Scandinavia.

From 2005 and onward names on the tour list have included, among others: B.B. King, Taj Mahal, Robert Gray, Carole King, Lee Ritenour, The Chieftains, Little Richard, Van Morrison, The Drifters, Dave Edmunds, Boney M, The Yardbirds, Spencer Davis Group, Sweet, Slade and Suzi Quatro.
